DAY 9 – FRIDAY

Today we woke up bright and early again, (or we may have slept past our alarms just a tad) and quickly all got ready, packed the car and quietly waited to start the day together, and for the rain to slow down just a little, so that we could enjoy the beautiful view of St Helens’ wharf with all the pretty little boats and the water that seems to just go on forever.

We hit the road on time and headed towards Pyengana. Through the tiny little town and the glorious green farms, we headed towards the infamous St Columbus Falls. A short 20 minute walk down the side of the mountain, lead us towards an incredible sight. The falls gushing down, the looks on Sophie and Alicia’s faces were priceless. We were all amazed by the cascading waters and stood there for a long while just admiring the view and taking plenty of pictures.

After this, we all stripped off our jumpers, as it was starting to heat up, and we headed back into Pyengana town, where we stopped at the cheese factory. We tried ‘real milk’ milkshakes and lots of different cheeses, and made some salad sandwiches and buns as we watched the girls play on the playground and the beautiful sunshine that brightened up our day.

Off on to the road again, we headed to somewhere quite special. On our way through Weldborough, we took a ‘slight’ turn off down a gravel road..and ended up nearly crunching the chasse on the Tarago as we headed down a road leading us to ‘Mt Paris Dam’. The dam walls were humongous and the waters (tested by Alex’s daring feet) were absolutely freezing.

After this, we headed to the quaint town of Derby, with the little clapboard houses. Through the back roads we reached a little spot with a sign that said, ‘Miners Tunnel’, where we headed down through the little branched off pathway to the caves (tunnel) where hundreds of glow worms lit the way. It was freezing and when we headed back outside we were amazed by the sun’s heat.

At this point, everyone was completely exhausted so we decided to grab drinks and some ice creams and hit the road towards Launceston J On our way through all the winding roads and bumps, we decided to stop at Myrtle park and pop in to see some family and show off our little girls.

We drove through Launceston town, uttering cheers as we were so excited to see friends and family. Alex and Larissa had plans to go out for dinner that night, and as we thought we were staying in Prospect for the period of time we were in town, we were confused as to why Dad was leading us towards Legana. Even more confused when he wasn’t turning around and heading back, when it was so close to the time we had to leave. Not until we reached Grindelwald hill, when he pulled over and announced to everyone that we were actually staying at Tamar Valley Resort (Swiss village in Grindelwald, WOW) that we all understood and were amazed. Giggling with excitement, we drove into the beautiful entrance and headed towards our beautiful chalets and quickly got ready to go out.

DAY 10 – SATURDAY

Today was a day to be celebrated as it was Dad’s 51st birthday! We all gathered together in the morning, exchanging gifts and eating breakfast. Then all together we headed off to Tailrace Park where our entire Hidding family (extended relatives and close family friends) were gathered to celebrate Rene and Shirley’s 40th wedding anniversary. There were so many relatives for Des and Kylie to meet, and so many people to catch up with for those who have been back here more often.

It was a day enjoyed by all and the sunshine that was bright all day, kept everybody happy. There was even a photo-booth with props set up against the big trees in the shade, so Chris Kylie Alex and Larissa donned silly hats, fake moustaches and scarves and struck funny poses for the camera.

After all this, everyone headed home and got ready to have dinner with the Dingemanses and De Ruiters at Myrtle Park to continue celebrating Dad’s birthday. A beautiful dinner was cooked by the hosts, and we had Roast pork and lamb, chicken and an incredible beef stroganoff. Everyone was truly rolling home this evening!

DAY 11 – SUNDAY

This morning we all headed to Legana church together and enjoyed a wonderful sermon about what love really is, by Reverend Kroeze. Talking about what love really is, gave us all ‘food for thought’ for the rest of the day. After the morning service, we all headed up Eccelstone road to visit the Dingemanses. In the afternoon the girls (Kylie, Mum, Larissa, Kate and Leanna) headed to Launceston for church. Another wonderful sermon was heard this afternoon, this time by Reverend Eikelboom.

After afternoon church, we all gathered at Aunty Carol’s again and enjoyed each other’s company around the barbeque down in the shed surrounded by beautiful smelling food again! J

DAY 12 – MONDAY

Today was the day we all headed to Myrtle Park for the annual church picnic. Gazebos were set up, and chairs scattered everywhere. Cricket, volleyball, soccer and other activities were set up and there were plenty of people enjoying themselves. Alicia and Sophie ran around the oval giggling and enjoying the beautiful sunshine again.

The day was enjoyed by the ‘gang’ (Chris, Kylie, Larissa, Alex and Kate) as we won points for ‘Team Legana.’ There was throwing little shot put balls at 5 pins, kicking a ball into a wheelbarrow located 15 metres from the kicking point, and other games like throwing a gumboot past a certain point and casting a fishing line into a bucket.

Painted faces, icy poles and bumblebees flying around, the day went by too quickly. Soon it was reaching late afternoon and everyone slowly packed up and headed home. All the ‘Hiddings’ packed up and headed back towards Grindelwald. Another eventful week ahead of us, we need sleep! J
